Philanthropy & Campus Involvement
Part of the character and brotherhood-building process is a commitment to better our environment through service projects. Aside from the many smaller projects that brothers participate in individually, the brothers are all encouraged to take part in a few house-wide service events each year.
"It's On Us"
During the fall of 2014, the Brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi-Delta Zeta created a video to spread awareness to end sexual assault. Joining thousands of students nation-wide, we took a pledge of personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault. We pledged to not be bystanders and to join the movement of becoming apart of the solution.
Week LONg philanthropy event
The week of Halloween Lambda Chi will be doing a philanthropy week long event where our main focus will be collecting canned goods, and our first annual Pumpkin Smash will occur. (More info to come later this semester)
4K For Cancer
Zhengran "Z" Jiang (graduated Spring 2012) and Eric G. Knapp (graduated Spring 2014). Both Brothers rode with a group of college students on a 70 day, 4000+ mile bike ride from Baltimore to Portland.
Relay For Life
Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi-Delta Zeta has participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life ever since Mark Eberhart founded the Lifeguards team in 1997. To date the team has raised over $50,000 to help find a cure for cancer. The Lifeguards is one of the most spirited teams at the Relay and is known for pulling around passengers in a rickshaw in exchange for a donation towards the team's Relay contributions.
Pie A Lambda Chi
The Pie a Lambda Chi was started by James Whieldon in 2010. Members of Lambda Chi Alpha sit outside the Commons at UMBC with pie tins filled with whipped cream. Anyone passing by can donate money in exchange for the opportunity to pie one of the members' faces. All proceeds from this event are donated to Feeding America.
On July 27, 2013, Lambda Chi Alpha announced a national partnership with Feeding America. This partnership is an opportunity to significantly increase the amount of food and funds collected at nearly 200 chapters across North America.
Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that provides food and services to more than 46 million people each year. Feeding America also supports programs to secure and provide food for families in need; operates programs that promote self-sufficiency; educates the public about hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry.
